When you walk into Landis Adult Day Services (ADS) it is likely that you will see Doug and that he will wave to you. He always acknowledges others. It’s one of the magnetic qualities that he possesses along with a great sense of humor.

Doug grew up in Lancaster County. He enlisted in the Army at 17 years old and served three years with 15 months in Vietnam. Afterward, he worked in construction for many years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, going to NASCAR races, and hunting with good buddies. He comes from a large family and also has two sons and one daughter himself.

Unfortunately, Doug encountered health challenges at the young age of 60. It forced him to retire early. It was hard for him to lose the ability to work and do the things he enjoyed doing. Fortunately, his children found Landis Adult Day Services and he comes every day.

“I am happier being here. There are good people here and I like to interact. I enjoy the food, the field trips, and shopping at the General Store on Landis Homes campus. Coming here changed my life. I’m not so lonely anymore,” Doug shared.

Perhaps you know someone like Doug who attends Landis ADS. Through the Landis ADS Annual Benefit Golf Outing coming up on June 5, you will have the opportunity to support the individuals who attend the Landis ADS program. You can participate as a golfer, a patron, sponsor or a volunteer.
